International conferences and seminars

The Graduate School encourages its students to attend scientific conferences. Travel funds are available for students who present their research on a scientific congress (oral or poster presentation) with the endorsement of their advisor. 

The travel funds cover costs of accommodation and travel to: 

  • a conference within Germany during the first year of doctoral studies
  • a conference within Europe after the first year of doctoral studies

In case of overseas conferences related to very high travel costs (both Americas, Australia, Far East) as well as conferences with very high registration fees, each travel refund application is treated individually and a strong recommendation from the supervisor is required.

Students' symposium

In 2007 students have set up an international conference called Crossroads in Biology. Each year they were able to win speakers of world wide fame covering a variety of scientific fields. The meeting is organized exclusively by the PhD students giving them a change to gain additional experience. During this conference the Graduate School students have a chance to present their posters. Selected students can also present their research results during the official lecture session.
